Mike Borean For Supervisor Candidate Update...THE FINAL PUSH

RUMORS ABOUT MY STAND ON PUBLIC LANDS
As we enter the final weeks of the primary election campaign, I have learned about a false rumor that is being spread about me by some people who support Michael Oliveira. The rumor is that I want to restrict our access to public lands. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am appalled about recent news stories regarding the federal government’s treatment of citizen’s legal use of federal land. I am troubled about the lack of free access to the Stanislaus National Forest, both to our local residents and visitors alike. If elected, I will work with the Forest Service to re-open our lands for our enjoyment and use. There are several good examples of local and Forest Service cooperation that we can use as an example....






BUREAURATRIC OBSTACLES and PERMITS
In a recent candidate forum, I repeated my goal of streamlining the permitting process and ensuring excellent customer service. Although it is true that most employees at the Government Center do a very good job, they are not supported by leaders and procedures that insure excellent customer service. The process of applying for a building permit could be greatly improved despite the statements of one of my opponents. Anyone who has applied for a building permit will agree with me.

WATER RIGHTS
Calaveras County through the CCWD enjoys water rights via the tunnel tap that exceed our current needs. We need to protect those, and other, water rights to insure our future prosperity. The Board of Supervisors does not enjoy direct control over our Water Districts, but if a Water Element is included in the General Plan, it would support the Water Districts in the protection of our rights.

LOCAL MAN
None of the District 3 Candidates are as closely tied to Calaveras County or have lived here as long as I have. My siblings, my children, my nieces and nephews all attended local schools. I have had the privilege of serving as a coach for local youth wrestling, soccer, baseball, and for the Bret Harte Wrestling team. I am a past president of the Calaveras Builder’s Association and I am a charter member of the Wrestling Booster’s Association.

This doesn’t in itself make me the best candidate, but Calaveras County is and has been my only home. A man will work for, and defend his home with more determination than someone who has outside ties.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources. To earn this degree, I put myself through college through hard work and sacrifice. This process started when I was fourteen. District 3 is a forested area and my formal education and experience is an asset in making sound decisions for our District.

CAREER and EXPERIENCE
I have been a firefighter for 33 years. Through hard work and dedication, I was able to rise through the ranks to my present position of Battalion Chief. I am responsible for the daily operations of a nine station Battalion that covers three cities and runs over 15,000 calls a year. I have led Strike Teams to some of the largest fires in California and have a deep understanding on large fire operations. I will be the only Supervisor with this knowledge. When the next large fire threatens our County, my fire management experience will give us an advantage in making sure that our homes and critical resources are protected.

Through my career I have developed strong leadership skills and decision making abilities. These two traits are greatly needed on our Board of Supervisors.

As a local business owner, I have seen first-hand how decisions made by the Board of Supervisors can hurt our local economy. That is why I led the effort to disband the Community Development Department which had a severe negative effect on our local economy.
I have the skills and abilities needed to work collaboratively with the entire Board of Supervisors to make sound decisions that will ensure the success of our County.


WE ARE AT A CRITICAL TIME IN CALAVERAS COUNTY. The policy decisions made in the next few years will be critical to our economic success. I have the skills, the education, the experience, but most of all, I have the sheer determination to make us successful. Together, we can rebuild Calaveras County. The task will not be easy or fast, but we are up to the task. Please vote for Mike Borean for County Supervisor on June 3rd.
