An artist’s reception in her honor will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 7 with complimentary appetizers and wine available by the glass for $5. "Monday Morning" - Janette Jones
The oil paintings of Janette Jones will be showcased the month of June at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception in her honor will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 7 with complimentary appetizers and wine available by the glass for $5.
The comments most heard about her paintings are “they make me feel joyful” and “they lift my spirits.” Jones, who is very optimistic about life and positive about the future, is thrilled that her paintings reflect this “joie de vivre” attitude. With a strong sense of design, personal color mixes and seeing the beauty in the light of every subject, she creates her distinct style.
Born in California, Jones majored in art while attending California State University, Stanislaus and studied watercolor for five years with Virginia Jentoft. Her watercolor images were successfully marketed and licensed with Daisy Kingdom, Naturally, Springs Mills and Prints Plus. She has been painting outdoors in oils after a workshop she took with Elizabeth Tolley in 2003, impassioned by the challenge of capturing the truth on canvas. In 2010 she created an ongoing painting group, “A Year at Milfiori,” to benefit the Douglas Flat Schoolhouse restoration project.
Jones has been an invited artist to the Napa Valley Art Festival three years in a row, as well as featured art shows in Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar and Dallas, Texas. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America, California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Painters and American Impressionist Society.
“I met Janette at an art show a couple of years ago and was mesmerized by her work,” said Jan Hovey. “Every now and then I find an artist that I love everything they do, and we are so excited to showcase her work in our tasting room.”
Hovey Tasting Room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. and until 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Guests are invited to sip a glass of wine in the garden or on the porch and linger longer. For more information, call 728-9999 or e-mail jan@hoveywine.com.
