Sonora Man Dies In Logging Accident In Rim Fire Burn Area

Groveland, CA.... On 5/29/14 about 8:00 A.M. the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a logging accident near Cottonwood Road and Forest Road 1N84. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department Deputies, Tuolumne County Fire, Tuolumne County Ambulance, PHI Air Ambulance and U.S. Forest Service Members all responded to the scene...

The victim, 48 eight year old, Chris Tomasovich of Sonora, was falling timber for a private contractor in the Rim Fire Burn area. Mr. Tomasovich was struck by part of a falling tree and received fatal injuries. He was declared deceased by medical personnel on scene.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Coroners Division will be conducting a Death Investigation. California Occupational Health and Safety Administration (CAL/OSHA) will be conducting an industrial accident investigation. Both investigations are currently on going.

My grandson works logging so I know how worried families members would be every day. My deepest sympathy to them.

The 2nd fatality of the RIM fire (the 1st was a straw bale truck driver died during rehab operations) and the Feds STILL have not charged the individual(s) known to start the RIM fire. What is going on FEDS?

This is sad news . Chris and I used to ride our bikes to his dad's mine during the summer months, when we were about 10 or 11 years old. His dad would have to haul us back in his pickup because we would be to pooped to ride all the way back to Stent.
