June's First Friday in the Park - June 13, 2014

Murphys, Ca...To kick off this year’s season of First Fridays in the Park neighborhood concerts, the sponsoring Murphys Community Club is actually staging the June event on the second Friday of the month, June 13, to avoid a conflict with the graduation ceremony at Bret Harte High School. “It has become a tradition to move our June performance ahead seven days,” states MCC president Suzanne Friedman. “With many of our families involved with Bret Harte we don’t want to compete with the school’s important year-end celebration.”From June to September, First Friday in the Park will feature a performance by a local musical group playing in the iconic gazebo starting at 5:30 p.m. From 5 p.m., a special dinner will be available for purchase at $10.00 per person and a featured local wine will be on sale along with other beverages. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a small town America gathering in the cool confines of Murphys Community Park....

The June 13 program will feature Bill Welles, on guitar, who will present a program of “Roots Americana,” contemporary music that incorporates elements of various musical styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues. He will be joined by Ray Price, on drums, Fred Treece on guitar, and Ron Schaner on bass. In addition to being a gifted musician, as a partner in DB3 homebuilders in Murphys, he has designed some of the finest houses in the area.

Val du Vino winery will cater the meal and have their award-wining wines for sale. The menu will consist of smoked pork loin with orange chipotle sauce, orzo with summer vegetables, watermelon, and South American scented brownies.

There is no admission charge and ample free parking is available nearby. Free-will donations to help maintain the park are always gratefully received.

Murphys Community Park is located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys.

Membership in the Murphys Community Club is open to everyone and contributions are tax deductible. For further information go to the web site or call 728-8183.

I think you should save your money and not go! oops - I forgot it's free, and put on by an all-volunteer organization. Well, anyway, why not stay home and play video games.

Well to be fair, Plan B wasn't the initial choice. Plan B was a backup plan, a fall back group. a recourse of music.

I love Plan B. They are one of the most accommodating band to play at events in the area. Can you name others that have done as much?

Never heard them, my hearing is shot. Though I've meet Vinnie a few times, nice guy and it's rather cool that they're playing for free. Seems pretty nice to me. Maybe you can write some bands like ZZ Top, or the Stones and ask them? I'm sure they'd love to.
