Thank You For The Opportunity To Serve ~ By Supervisor Darren Spellman

Rancho Calaveras, CA...I am truly grateful for the opportunity I had to proudly serve my community and Calaveras County. I've met many wonderful people and learned vast amounts of new things I never would have, had I not served as a County Supervisor these last four years. I will always cherish this time as an experience unlike any other, that very few people get the opportunity to experience. Many people wonder what it would be like to be an elected representative and how they would change things for the better if they had a crack at it for a year or two....

Well I can check that one off of my bucket list and have a lifetime's worth of cocktail party stories I will surely be telling for the next 30 years or so.

With the unprecedented impending financial hardships that we now face as a county with little hope of avoiding bankruptcy I am very concerned yet I have no recourse but to wish my successor good luck.

I kept my promise to be a logical and pragmatic voice of reason, to work hard and to be honest in all my dealings with my colleagues and the public.

So I go forward with many great experiences and a sense of personal pride knowing that I was not changed by the system and can be proud of the service I rendered as an elected representative of the people who elected me.

For that I will ever be grateful.

Sincerely,

Darren Spellman
Calaveras
County Supervisor

"I", "I", "I" so typical. Supervisors serve, the opposite of what is shown here.

Jrez. Give the guy a break. He is saying farewell to the community. How many other supervises in the past lost and took the time to say farewell?

The ACLU is going to sue our county because of you and your religious agenda, Mr. Spellman. I hope you're proud of yourself. I'm certainly proud of all the voters in your district who gave you the boot!

Why is he writing this goodbye letter? He has six more months to work. Maybe he will actually get to work on time and attend a few meetings. Or maybe not since he's a sitting duck with revenge on his mind.

Good riddance.

by putting the word 'your' in quotations, i'm led to believe he's being sarcastic. so "your" voice is what? his voice? a beaver's voice? perhaps it's the voice of some homeless people chatting outside my window at 3:30 a.m.

WHOSE VOICE IS IT??? i'm going to lose sleep over this. THANKS

Thank you Mr, Spellman for your service to this County and your District with integrity, honesty, and thoughtfulness. You served without concern for the political arena of garbage and wothout concern for the numerous unfounded personal attacks many ignorant people in this community spew all too easily. It is embarrassing that people have sunk so low in our democratic political processes to dissuade quality people with talent from considering running for office. Thank YOU Mr. Spellman, you are a man of great integrity amongst a throng of fools, but you still worked hard for all! Best to you in all endeavors and thank you for your service to us, you will be greatly missed.

Agree, thank you. The sour people in this County do NOT deserve a glance, they are like fly-poop! Onward Mr. Spellman to much better things than the jerks in this County. Miss you already...

Maybe District 5 should form its own county or annex to San Joaquin/Stanislaus where most of you all came from so the sane people upcountry can make real progress toward solutions rather than creating problems.

Yes, thank you supervisor Spellman! You've shown class and dignity, thank you for your leadership and we'll miss you while wishing you the best. The toxic diatribes are worthless. Hope elections can become more considerate and respectful in the future no matter who is running for office. Again, thank you for all of your efforts for our community and the County.

So you are calling the 80% majority of people who voted against Spellman, fools??? Oh, that's rich, to quote the "esteemed" supervisor you think has integrity and honor.

Let's hope the voters voted "FOR" someone rather than "AGAINST" someone, but then again, some are not capable of dealing with issues in an sophisticated manner and resort to mid-slinging, which is worthless and uncalled for. Whether I agreed with Supervisor Spellman on all issues or not, I appreciated his clearly articulated positions and hard work, which is much more than can be said for others who sit in Chambers contemplating what favors are owed them! Yes, thank you for working FOR us Mr. Spellman!

Well, that's a nice letter, Darren. Now if you could just go out on a positive note, be on time for the BOS meetings, put your nose to the grindstone, stop falsely accusing people of crimes, and do your best with the county budget, maybe, just maybe, we will say, "Maybe he wasn't such a bad guy after all."

In quotes about our county avoiding bankruptcy, "I am very concerned yet I have no recourse but to wish my successor good luck". Wow!!! I am the chief shop steward over 300 workers and with an attitude like this, 3 people in Valley Springs would be out of a jod. I believe in fighting for peoples rights, for what you love and your neighbors, so why in four years you have no recourses to fight for your county? Well, you can relive your cocktail parties for thirty years or help the newcomers with "the unprecedented impending financial hardships that we now face as a county with little hope of avoiding bankruptcy". I know what I would do...
