City Council Sends Medical Center Project Packing Or At Least Back To Planning Commission Update Full Video Up Now ~ By John Hamilton

Angels Camp, CA....It was a very tough meeting to sit through last night as the Angels Camp City Council voted 4-1 last night to deny the zoning amendment that would have kept the ball rolling towards a new 15,000 sqft Family Medical Center & Medical Office complex at the the corner of Hwy 4 & 49. It was painful to witness because the real problem was not the project or the concerns of the residents. If we are going to get serious in our area about economic development projects like this need to be able to go forward and City Councils need to have the intestinal fortitude to pursue real solutions like the Clifton Lane solution which has the potential to solve the residents concerns for decades....

Complete Video Is Now Below. It Is Broken Into Three Sections

Angels Camp City Council Meeting Hour One
Angels Camp City Council Meeting Hour Two
Angels Camp City Council Meeting Hour Three

The map in the photos above is from 2004 not 2014. It shows the expensive but actual solution to Dogtown Road's traffic issues.

Economic development that will help reverse the trend of declining school enrollments attract jobs that will support families and help lure companies and jobs to the area is needed. Angels Camp is in a position to lead the county and area in job retention and recruitment. Dignity Health is ready to do their part on the healthcare side of the equation and this $7 million dollar project will not only help them provide medical services but enhance their doctor and provider recruitment by providing quality work environments.

But they and other businesses that want to bring services to the area cannot wait years for answers or solutions. We also cannot punish existing businesses and residents with traffic mitigation's that are almost comically bad. Dumping u-turns onto private property, forcing trucks to make illegal turns, these "solutions" actually make us look worse and less likely to attract quality companies.

The City Council should lead and say yes, we need the project and yes, we will actually take tough steps if needed to actually fix the traffic issues. Creating another outlet onto Hwy 49 farther north is a real solution. It would take time and be controversial. It is also a real solution. If the voters knew a real solution is in the works they would trust the council to do so. These decisions also show prospective companies bringing jobs to the area that we can actually solve problems.
