Sourdough Slim and Robert Armstrong Pony Up with Great Entertainment for Calaveras Arts Music in the Parks 2014

Arnold, Ca...The Calaveras Arts Council is happy and laughing to bring back MIP favorites, cowboy entertainer Sourdough Slim and his sidekick Robert Armstrong to The HUB at the Arnold Cedar Center. Music starts at 6:30 pm, but get there early and stake your ground for these two cowboy entertainers. Roots revivalists Sourdough Slim and Robert Armstrong are passionate about the music they play and the culture from which it springs. Proud torch-bearers of America's rich roots music heritage, the two demonstrate their enthusiasm from the first catchy bars of "My Last Old Dollar" to the last wistful strains of their phenomenal re-creation of Stan Jones' immortal "Riders In The Sky." These exceptional showmen joyously rekindle the country blues, western classics, vintage jazz and string band repertoire of twentieth century rural America. A fast-paced performance that showcases their seasoned gift for connecting with audiences is a surefire treat. Whether capturing the haunting refrain of a Jimmie Rodgers blue yodel or swinging out a hot novelty number, the fun these two cut-ups have on stage leads to a contagious good time for everyone in the house...

Long time fans will remember them as founding members of two of California's favorite acoustic combo's; "8th Avenue String Band" and "R. Crumb's Cheap Suit Serenaders." Between them they share a provocative array of period instruments including: flat-top guitar, national steel guitar, baritone and soprano ukulele, musical saw, accordion, six-string banjo and harmonica.
Well traveled veterans of stages ranging from Carnegie Hall and The Lincoln Center to The Strawberry Music Festival, The National Cowboy Gathering and Prairie Home Companion, these modern day vaudevillians capture a sound and moment in time that consistently delights fun loving music fans wherever they perform.
Bring your low back chair, picnic dinner and enjoy the family friendly entertainment and environment. If you don’t feel like packing your own meal, Johnny’s (restaurant) will have sandwiches, tacos, burgers and more for purchase. Wine, beer, and soft drinks will also be available, all at an affordable price.
To get to The HUB at The Arnold Center, take Highway 4 East to Arnold. Turn North on Oak Circle to Cedar Center. Park is behind El Dorado Savings Bank.

The next Music in the Parks concert is July 30 at the Community Center in Mountain Ranch. Rock, blues, soul and pop band, The Lemon Hammer will be performing. For a downloadable schedule of Music in the Parks and other events presented by the Calaveras Arts Council, go to www.calaverasarts.org or call (209) 754-1774.
