Very Special Trail Building Day Saturday, July 19th

Arnold, Ca...Very very special Volunteer Trailbuilding day this Saturday, July 19th! Help finish up the "Cowboy Trail", a three mile section of brand new trail near Avery Sheep Ranch Road and Valley View Drive. Please meet at the US Forest Service Station in Hathaway Pines at 8:30 am. After a brief safety orientation by Jeffery Hilson, our Stanislaus Forest Service Trail Manager, we will car pool to the section of trail we will build that day. Since it often gets warm as the morning progresses, please bring layers, gloves, hat, sunscreen, and water. If you have a favorite garden tool like loppers, bring those, but we will have tools for everyone. Folks from eight to eighty-eight are invited; children should have adult supervision. We wrap up around noon, sometimes a little earlier. If you have another obligation that day, feel free to depart sooner as needed...

Dear Arnold Rim Trail Equestrians, Cyclists, and Hikers,

• Very very special Volunteer Trailbuilding day this Saturday, July 19th! Help finish up the "Cowboy Trail", a three mile section of brand new trail near Avery Sheep Ranch Road and Valley View Drive.

• The next guided sunset hike to Cougar Rock will be August 10th.

• Details about both these activities may be found below.

Warm regards,
Arnold Rim Trail Steering Committee

Volunteer Trail Work Day, third Saturday of each month from May to October, 2014July 19thAug 16thSept 20th, and Oct 18th.
If you have another obligation that day, feel free to depart sooner as needed.

Arnold Rim Trail Association steering committee member Dave Edney continues this year as our trail building leader. Thanks to Jeffery and Dave for their ongoing commitment and dedication to the Arnold Rim Trail.
Special Note about this Saturday, July 19th's trailbuilding: While we usually finish up by noon, and by all means those who need to depart by noon or earlier of course no problem whatsoever, but this Saturday we are going to try to connect both ends of the 3 mile "Cowboy Trail" that we have been working on for two years. We will have trailmix and Subway sandwiches for those who are able to stay into the afternoon; please bring your own hydration. It will be warm as the day matures, so do bring plenty of fluids if you are able to stay into the afternoon. And again, if the morning session suits your needs, then that is just perfect.
This will be just be a hoot of a day. The Cowboy Trail is unlike anything else on the Arnold Rim Trail. Please wear long pants since we will encounter some poison oak, but with long pants you should be fine... hope to see you Saturday, if you have never worked a volunteer day, this one will be special...

Guided Sunset Hikes to Cougar Rock, scheduled near full moon. Aug 10thSept 7thOct 5th
Watch the sun set from the top of Cougar Rock on this moderate 5.5 mile round trip hike led by Arnold Rim Trail Association Steering Committee member Dave Edney. If you haven't done one of these hikes, you owe yourself the treat. They are scheduled to be near the day of the full moon each month, and they are special!
Meet at the northeastern most parking area on the ARTA Map on Valley View Drive. Download the map here. The parking area is exactly 1.4 miles in on Valley View Drive from the Lakemont Drive turnoff. Valley View Drive becomes a dirt road 0.43 miles before you arrive at the parking area.
Here's a link that shows you the exact location of the trailhead.
The GPS coordinates of the parking area:
North 38 degrees 13.171, West 120 degrees 22.707
No sign-up needed, hike proceeds even if cloudy, but rain cancels. Bring layers, snack, water and flashlight (return hike is in the dark). Please arrive at the trailhead about two hours before sunset. For example, August 10th meet in parking lot at 6:00pm. Depart parking lot at 6:15pm. Sunset on August 10th will be at 8:01pm.
Return to vehicles about three hours later give or take. Questions? Contact Dave Edney at 209-795-5931. He is a fabulous guide and looks forward to answering your questions. Dave often posts additional information about his hikes on facebook. Navigate to "Arnold Rim Trail Association" in your facebook search field.

Revised trail map now available.
A revised map of the Arnold Rim Trail is now available at Hathaway Pines Forest Service Office, Sierra Nevada Adventure Company in Arnold, Ebbetts Pass Visitors Center in Arnold, Sierra Nevada Logging Museum in White Pines and other locations. Suggested donation $1. The same map is now also available for free download on the Association website. Thanks so much to Arnold Rim Trail Association steering committee members cartographer Kim Grissom and treasurer Tyler Summersett for all their hard work producing this updated edition.
