18 Candidates To Gather Sunday, September 28
Murphys, CA...Eighteen men and women who are running for public office in Calaveras County will gather in Murphys Community Park on Sunday, September 28, 3 to 5 p.m. so that local voters can “Meet the Candidates.” The Murphys Community Club, in conjunction with the Murphys Business Association, is organizing the event as a new approach to neighborhood campaigning. “We think this is a great way for the residents of our area, in a stress free environment, to really get to know the people who want our votes,” say MCC President Sue Friedman. “There have been forums and other public gatherings, and the candidates have been attending events and knocking on doors, but here is a chance to interact informally with all the candidates in one place, at one time.”
The candidates who will be in attendance are those running for County Supervisor - District 3, Superior Court Judge - Departments 1 and 2, Calaveras Community Water District Board Member - Division 3, the Vallecito Union School Board, and the Mark Twain Health Care District Board.
There will be no speeches or formal presentations.
Each candidate will be allowed to set up a table and a couple of chairs, display their signs and other printed materials, and be available to chat, one-on-one, with potential voters.
The candidates are: Board of Supervisors, District 3 – Merita Callaway and Michael Oliveira; Superior Court, Department 1 – Grant Barrett and Dana Pfeil; Superior Court, Department 2 – Hugh Swift and Tim Healy; Calaveras Community Water District, Division 3 – Don Stump and Bertha Underhill; Vallecito Union School Board – Jill Bray, Colby Barker, Kellie Senn, Tom Richmond, and Tom Pratt; Mark Twain Health Care District – Lin Reed, Firman Brown, George Fry, Peter Oliver, and Anne Radford. Alison Heermance, who is a school board candidate, will not be able to attend but will send a representative.
Murphys Community Park is located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys. Membership in the Murphys Community Club is open to everyone and contributions are tax deductible. For further information log onto VisitMurphys.com or call 728-8183.
