Robert L Wagner November 7, 1935 - September 7, 2014
Murphys, CA...On Sunday September 7 2014, Robert L Wagner “Bob” passed from this world to join family and friends that have previously made the journey. Bob was 78 years and lived in “The Diggins” in Murphys. He had recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but passed peacefully from this life of a stroke watching the Oakland Raiders lose...
Bob was born in Reno, Nevada on November 7 1935, but spent his childhood growing up in the San Jose area. There were eight other brothers and sisters in his large family. He is survived by his older sister, Sue, an older brother, Ralph, and his younger sister, Roxie. He attended Santa Clara High and played on the football team.
Bob was honorably discharged from the army in 1961 and was extremely proud of the opportunity to provide service to his country. He then attended DeAnza College and was instrumental in forming the Veteran’s Club and a group that provided assistance to those physically disadvantaged. He married Donna Snow, his ex-wife. They had two beautiful daughters that survive Bob, Shelly DuPuis and Dawnette Monk and also a granddaughter, Madeline Buccola. Shelly resides in Montana, Dawnette “Dondi” lives in Washington. Dondi provided Bob with his only grandchild, Madeline, who also makes her home in Montana.
Bob moved to Calaveras County in the late 1970’s and owned the Dorrington General Store for several years, a time in which he touched many people. If you were unable to pay for your groceries, he kept a journal and told those folks, pay me when you can. When he sold the store there were still many that had debt “on the books”. Bless you, Bob!
He held various jobs in the area, Camp Connell General Store, Ebbett’s Pass Lumber Yard to name a couple. These were just “jobs” so he, with a partner, formed a business “Bob Wagner Photography” in which he traveled and photographed junior and high school rodeos. Bob built an one hour mobile photo processing lab in the back of an Uhaul moving truck and hit the rodeo road for the next 20 years. The business was very successful until the advent digital photography.
Bob moved to join his daughters in Montana, but he missed this area and hated the cold, so after a couple of years moved back to Calaveras County. He became very integral in the formation of the Murphys Senior Center. He was the “go to guy” at the Center and as Site Manager was responsible for day to day management. Bob leaves many friends who he helped in Murphys, he could frequently be found fixing a car or doing home fix ups for anyone that had a need. Thank you Bob!
A “Celebration of Life” will be held in Bob’s honor on September 27 at 1 pm in the Clubhouse, Murphys Diggins Mobile Home Park, 340 Tom Bell Road, Murphys. Please, if possible, bring a finger food to share.
The family requests that rather than flowers, memorial donations be made in Bob’s name to: Murphys Senior Center
