The Vallecito Teachers Association has proudly announced they are endorsing 3 candidates in the upcoming election for the Vallecito Union School District Board of Education. After interviewing the six candidates in the race, the Political Action Committee, PAC, called Vallecito Teachers For Quality Leadership, has decided to place their support behind Ali Heermance, Colby Barker, and Tom Pratt. Each candidate has a passion for improving the educational experience for the students in the three VUSD schools, Hazel Fischer .....
Elementary, Albert Michelson Elementary, and Avery Middle School. They have an exciting vision for Vallecito including ideas to move forward with Common Core State Standards, improve and enhance the arts, music, technology, and sports programs, and much enthusiasm to work for positive change.
Ali Heermance is a former 5th and 6th grade teacher with experience working with GATE students and meeting the needs of accelerated learners, as well as a former Board Member of Murphys Preschool. Ali is a parent to two young children at Michelson. She is Vice President of Michelson Parents Club, member of the LCAP Committee, and School Site Council, as well as budget and operational skills working in a local business. She feels strongly that there must be more cohesion on the Board and open communication with parents and teachers.
Colby Barker is currently the beloved Drama teacher at Bret Harte High School. He has two primary age children at Michelson Elementary and coaches youth sports. Colby offers a unique and insightful perspective as both a parent and teacher. He recently earned a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and School Development. As a secondary school teacher, Colby sees the result of what well-prepared students can achieve at the next level of education, emphasizing the importance of a strong Vallecito District. He looks forward to working in partnership with the parents of VUSD students.
Tom Pratt is an art insurance broker who has developed a well-respected firm. He is a former School Board Member in Santa Monica/Malibu School District, which has provided him the knowledge and experience with school finance and programs. He has written grants and successfully garnered funding for needed services. He will pursue equal access to quality education for all students. Tom has been involved with the Calaveras Arts Council, Rotary Club, Native Sons of the Golden West, and Murphys Community Club. Tom has a vested interest in Vallecito District with two small children who will begin attending school in the next few years.
Vallecito Teachers Association thanks all six candidates in the race for their willingness to serve and their obvious concern and interest in helping VUSD remain a stand-out district for quality education. VTA urges all eligible voters to make the effort to vote on November 4, and support the candidates who will provide the leadership Vallecito deserves to meet any challenges ahead: Ali Heermance, Colby Barker, and Tom Pratt.
