Launch of Calaveras Save Campaign
In response to the Calaveras Unified School Districts proposal to cut music and sports programs in order to shrink budget deficits, a group of parents, teachers, students, alumni and volunteers have launched the Calaveras Save Campaign. The Calaveras Save Campaign, organized by the Calaveras Youth Organization and under the advisement of the Calaveras Community Foundation as a donor advised fund, is to ensure the future of music and performing arts education in Calaveras Unified School District.....
Though Calaveras Unified School District has guaranteed music education through the 2015-2016 school year, the 2016-2017 school year funding are in jeopardy as well as future school years.
It is the immediate goal of the Calaveras Save Campaign is to raise the $266,000 to staff the 3 teachers whose positions would be cut for the 2016-2017 school year, and to sustain the programs for future generations. The Calaveras Save Campaign has reached an agreement with CUSD that the funding would only be used for the music and performing arts programs.
The Calaveras Save Campaign reiterates that Music Matters, particularly in education as numerous studies show that music bridges diverse culture, different learning abilities and is all part of developing a creative and driven student.
The Calaveras Save Campaign hopes to raise fund through a number of efforts, including a few events, grants as well as from community donations. More information can be found through the website: www.calaverasyouth.org and on Facebook, searching for the Calaveras Save Campaign
