In Loving Memory of Arthur "Craig" Steinman

Arnold, CA...Craig Steinman, 78, of Arnold, died Wednesday, October 22, of inoperable brain cancer. Fortunately, the time between diagnosis and death was very short, and most of his immediate family was able spend time with him during that period. His wife and stepson were with him when he died....

Born in Bellflower, CA, to Arthur and Miriam Steinman, he worked his way through Stanford University while supporting a wife and child, and earned his degree in Architecture. After graduation, he worked at the firms of Bill Busse and Ernest Kump, acting as Project Architect on Mission College and doing designs for Yosemite and Colter Bay, Teton National Park. The work of the firm he founded in Palo Alto in 1976, A.C. Steinman and Associates, Architects, encompassed the design of many residences in Palo Alto and the surrounding Bay area, as well as work at Menlo School and College and Stanford and Santa Clara Universities.

He moved to Arnold in 1997 with second wife, Maggie Markkanen, and designed and built their home in Lakemont Pines. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

Craig is survived and sorely missed by his wife Maggie, brother Jon, children Suzanne and Eric from his first marriage to Kay Paris, step-children Catlin and Justin, six granddaughters, brother-in-law Douglas and his faithful canine companion, Charley.

A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of this loving, perennially-cheerful, genuine friend and cherished husband will be announced at a later date.
