Bathroom Bonanza - When Waiting Is Just Not An Option. ~From Uniquity Builders

Calaveras, CA...When was the last time you lived (or stayed) in a house with just one bathroom? For us it was around 1999. We were living in what we affectionately called “the cave”, while Bill was building our new house in Arnold. Invariably whenever one of us had to “go”, it was like a cue for nature to call on the other one. Such is the life of living with only one bathroom in the family – even if there are only two of you. When our brand new house was finally done it had a heavenly 3-½ bathrooms for the two of us....

Some people would say the bathroom bonanza going on these days is no more than an unnecessary indulgence. After all, how many bathrooms do two people need? Apparently more than one per person…

According to data from the Survey of Construction (SOC), the average number of bathrooms in new single-family homes rose to an all-time high of 2.56 in 2012. This is not surprising since the median size of single-family homes in 2013 was 2,598 sq. ft. vs. 1,366 sq. ft. in 1929.

Our last home in Arnold had one bathroom for each of the three bedrooms, plus two half baths to boot! That might be more than some people want to clean, but it sure doesn’t hurt resale value on homes.

Oh, and don't worry too much about the bad feng shui they say comes from too many open toilets in the house. That's easily fixed. Just be sure and keep the bathroom door closed and the toilet seat down to minimize the loss of energy (which supposedly equates to flushing your money down the toilet...).

More feng shui bathroom tips, according to Jayme Barrett, best selling author of Feng Shui Your Life:
  • Mirrors speed up and circulate energy, so mirrors are good in the bathroom - as long as you can't see your entire body when sitting on the john.
  • Keep light and air circulating with open windows and skylights to boost healthy energy.
  • Add a night light, up light wall sconces, one healthy plant, and rubber stoppers to cover your drains when they aren't being used. It's all about keeping the good energy moving!
If you're ready for a bathroom remodel or addition in your home, check out two of our remodels below for some ideas.
