Community Emergency Response Team Training Scheduled for Calaveras CERT Academy scheduled for January 2015
Copperopolis, CA...The Calaveras Emergency Response Team under the guidance of the Calaveras Citizen Corps Council sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will offer 21 hours of free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training at the Copperopolis Fire Protection District Station on 10, 17 & 18 January 2015....
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), a component of the Citizen Corps program, helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their community. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders by providing immediate assistance to themselves, their family, and their neighbors. The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations and light search and rescue.
Following a major disaster first responders will be overwhelmed and may not be able to meet the high demand of emergency services such as search and rescue, medical services, and fire. In these situations people rely on each other for help. Family members, neighbors, and fellow employees will try to help each other until professional services can arrive. Attending the CERT training course will enable local residents to learn how to prepare themselves, their family, and their community for a disaster. This training will also show individuals how to safely respond in disaster situations, and how to organize in the aftermath of a disaster.
Upon completion of the Academy, CERT Graduates are able to apply as a volunteer for their local CERT sponsored by their Fire Protection District/Department if desired. Currently there are recognized teams in West Point, Copperopolis, San Andreas, Moke Hill, Valley Springs/Jenny Lind, Central Fire, & Murphys Fire Protection Districts as well as in the City of Angels Camp. Efforts are currently underway to establish a CERT in the Ebbetts Pass Fire Protection District as well.
The 21 hour CERT Academy is free of charge and divided over two Saturdays and one Sunday. Supplemental training is will also be offered in 2015 to CERT Academy Graduates that include, Animal Response, Firefighter Rehab, Traffic & Crowd Management to name a few.
