Eagle Viewing Tours at Pardee & Camanche Reservoirs
For many years, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) has conducted public boat excursions on its reservoirs each winter in search of Bald Eagles and other birds and wildlife. EBMUD is fortunate to once again offer this opportunity to its local community. There are a limited number of seats and wait-list spots available so reservations are required. Reservations can be made by calling (209) 772-8204...
The tours will be held at Pardee and Camanche Reservoirs on Saturday, January 10, 2015 and Saturday, January 24, 2015 with morning or afternoon tours available each day. These tours are led by EBMUD Rangers on pontoon boats that have metal seats and side rails but are unprotected from the wind. It will be very cold! It is suggested that participants wear the following: winter hat, long underwear, insulated boots, gloves, and parka/winter style coat. The rangers will turn anyone away who is not adequately prepared. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, cameras, water, hot drinks, and snacks. Children who are age 7 or older are welcomed; younger children tend to become bored and cold. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Tours will be cancelled if there is heavy fog, moderate to heavy wind or heavy rain. The tours will be held under light rain/drizzle weather conditions -- appropriate attire must be worn!
By conducting tours each January at Camanche and Pardee reservoirs, EBMUD can accommodate approximately 150 guests on its Bald Eagle Tours. The reason that EBMUD’s Mokelumne Watershed and Recreation Division offers these tours is to show its appreciation for the communities in which its staff live and work; to increase the public’s awareness of wildlife and other watershed resources and the District’s efforts to manage these resources for sustainability and public enjoyment; and to promote the Mokelumne Trailbusters Volunteer Program. The Trailbusters are a dedicated group of volunteers who helped build a valuable segment of the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail.
