Mother Lode Bonsai Club’s Back-to-Basics Public Demo
San Andreas, CA...The Mother Lode Bonsai Club will present the second part of its back-to-basics demonstration on Saturday, March 7. Wiring and styling techniques will be presented by Joan Scroggs of Columbia as part of the club’s monthly agenda. This free demonstration will follow the member meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. at the former Calaveras County Water District office, located at 423 E. St. Charles Street (Hwy. 49) in San Andreas. ...
“Use of wire is an essential part of the structuring and shaping of bonsai trees,” said Scroggs, who was designated as senior club sensei (teacher) last year. “It not only promotes healthier tree growth, but also turns something ordinary into something extraordinary.”
“Most wiring is done during early stages of plant growth when branches are more pliable. It is also done later to continue a distinctive look or design. Application of wiring is a very basic skill that all bonsai hobbyists should know,” she said.
In addition, Scroggs will offer hands-on training classes after the demonstration for anyone, who would like special focus on their individual bonsai or has questions and concerns about a particular tree. The two-hour class is offered at $15 for club members and $25 for non-members.
Beginning to experienced bonsai enthusiasts are invited to attend the meeting and public demonstration. Club members will also be available to provide advice on caring for bonsai trees. For more information, call Dean at (209) 754-5887.
