Prescribed Burn on the Stanislaus National Forest
Sonora, CA....If conditions permit, the Stanislaus National Forest will conduct a seven day broadcast underburn of approximately 173 acres on the Mi-Wok Ranger District starting Monday. The project area is located a half mile south of long Barn on Forest Road 3N90, close to the 3N01 intersection. Smoke may be visible from Highway 108 in the Mi-Wuk or Long Barn area....
Prescribed burns are conducted under precise weather and fuel moisture conditions designed to meet both fuel reduction goals and project objectives.
The goal of this prescribed burn is to create defensible space near communities and provide safe and effective areas for suppressing fire, such as fuel breaks, through a low intensity understory burn.
Prescribed burning is an effective, cost-efficient method of reducing flammable, forest fuels such as: slash from forest thinning projects and overgrowth in general.
Smoke may be visible in the canyons during the night and early morning. This project is a planned, prescribed fire. Please do not report as a wildland fire.
If you have any questions, please contact the Mi-Wok Ranger District at: (209) 586-3234. Thank you for your cooperation.
