Mokelumne Hill Conference Welcomes Writers on May 1~3rd
Mokelumne Hill, CA...Mokelumne Hill’s historic Hotel Leger will be the scene of the 10th annual Gold Rush Writers Conference to be held May 1, 2, and 3rd. The event will offer a choice of 17 interactive workshops covering all facets of the writing craft lead by award winning novelists, memoirists, screen writers, academics, poets and journalists as well as readings and specialty talks....
This year’s conference headliners are Alex Espinoza and Mary Volmer. Espinoza’s debut novel, “Still Water Saints,” was named a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers Selection. He teaches creative writing at California State University, Fresno.
Mary Volmer, author of “Crown of Dust,” was the recipient of a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship to the University of Wales and a Chester Aaron and an Agnes Butler Scholarship in creative writing at Saint Mary’s College. She has been awarded fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center and Hedgebrook.
Both writers will speak at the conference as well as conduct workshops .
Best selling author Antoinette May, founding director of the conference, will repeat her workshop, “The Novel You Were Born to Sell.” May’s debut novel, “Pilate’s Wife,” was translated into 17 languages. Her most recent book, “The Determined Heart” was sold to Amazon’s new publishing company, Moon Lake Press, and will be out in September.
Co-chairman Kathie Isaak-Luke will conduct a workshop in short story writing. Author of the poetry collection, Chrysalides, and an acclaimed short story writer, she also writes for the Union Democrat.
Pam Mundale, also a co-chairman, is a debut novelist as well as a short story writer. She will discuss character and point of view in her workshop.
Back by popular demand is poet, playwright and author Indigo Moor. A graduate of the Artist’s Residency Institute for Teaching Artists, three of his short plays, Harvest, Shuffling, and The Red and Yellow Quartet debuted at the 60 Million Plus Theatre’s Spring Playwright’s festival. Moor’s full-length stage play, Live! at the Excelsior, was a finalist for the Images Theatre Playwright Award and is being made into a full length film.
For the first time, the conference is offering a workshop in screen writing. Direct from Hollywood, Dawn Spinella, will lead a course in screen writing. She is the winner of the Alfred P. Sloan Screenwriting competition, the UCLA Theater, Film and Television FilmLab and the Humanitas Fellowship in Dramatic Television writing. She is currently working on a feature film
The price of $160 ($150 for returnees) includes a picnic supper in a Victorian garden, dinner at the Hotel Leger and a poolside brunch.
