Salsa comes to Calaveras County by way of the Calaveras Arts Ovations Series
Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Arts Council’s fourth show for the Ovations 2015 Performing Arts Series brings Yemaya Salsa Dance Co. to Dr. Elliott Smart Performing Arts Center located at Bret Harte High School, 323 Highway 49, in Angels Camp on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 3:00pm. Doors open at 2:00pm....
Sacramento’s Yemaya Salsa Dance Co. is bringing their form of flirtatious Latin dance to the county next Sunday. Angels Camp and the Bret Hart High School Theater will be packed with over 50 dancers who will showcase salsa, cha-cha, bachata, rueda, Latin jazz, ballet, mambo and more.
Salsa is a popular form of social dance that originated in New York with strong influences from Latin America, particularly Cuba and Puerto Rico. Yemaya dancers will showcase their skills as well as bring the audience to Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and to the Big Apple through their innovative yet traditional dance form. It is believed that the name salsa came about because salsa dancing and music is a mixture of different styles, just like salsa or “sauce” in Latin American countries is a mixture of different ingredients. Calaveras audience is invited to come and decide for themselves.
Yemaya dance troupes have appeared on Good Day Sacramento, danced at the Sacramento Kings games, Oakland Raiders half time, and all area salsa dance congresses and competitions.
Adult tickets are $25 each and Youth 18 years and younger are $10 each.
