36 Players Compete In Murphys PONGFEST ‘15
Murphys, CA...Thirty-six ping pong players from throughout the Mother Lode, and beyond, took part in Pongfest ’15 staged by the Murphys Area Community Tennis Association (MACTA) on Saturday, February 21. Singles and doubles matches were held throughout the day under the watchful eye of Jim Triolo, the event organizer. Thomas Maudoux, of Saratoga, was the singles grand prize winner with Sonora resident Steve Foster as runner-up. The doubles championship went to Foster and Matt Nesper, also of Sonora...
The Ickybird Award, presented to the player deemed to be “the biggest hoot, in the spirit of the day,” went to Craig McDonald of Murphys.
While the Ping-Pong tournament was in progress, 24 women who are regular users of Murphys’ premiere courts engaged in the second annual Ladies Tennis Invitational organized by Angella Woods.
This multi-faceted event was staged as a fundraiser to help MACTA maintain and improve the heavily used courts. The current project is to improve the facility’s bar-b-que area.
MACTA is a recognized non-profit organization formed in the autumn of 2010 to channel the interests and efforts of the many tennis players in the greater Murphys area. It is a community tennis association affiliated with the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
MACTA is designed to welcome tennis players of all ages and all skill levels. Anyone wishing to join can do so by making an annual donation of at least $25. Contributions can be sent to PO Box 344, Murphys CA 95247. For further information, MACTA President David Bowman can be reached at dbowman@goldrush.com.
