Rim Fire Reforestation Scoping Period Opens on the Stanislaus
Sonora, CA… The Stanislaus National Forest is now requesting public comment on the Rim Fire Reforestation proposal which includes reforestation, plantation thinning, wildlife habitat enhancement and noxious weed treatments on National Forest System lands within the footprint of the Rim Fire. This initial 45-day scoping comment period opens today with the publication of the Notice of Intent (NOI) in the Federal Register. “Written comments are encouraged during this ....
time frame,” said Forest Supervisor, Jeanne Higgins. “Knowing your thoughts, concerns and issues early on in the process is important to us. Your scoping comments may even help to identify issues or alternatives that can be addressed in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).”
A scoping package, maps and other project information are available online at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=45612. This material provides pertinent details on the project and will enable the public to address the proposed action. “To formally have your voice heard,” said Jeanne, “it is necessary to send in your written comments during the open comment period to the addresses supplied below. Please include supporting reasons for your suggestions to help us better understand your perspective.”
Written comments can be submitted to Stanislaus National Forest; Attn: Rim Reforestation; 19777 Greenley Road, Sonora, CA 95370. Faxes will also be accepted at (209)-533-1890. Lastly, you can also email your thoughts in common (.doc, .pdf, .rtf, .txt) formats to: comments-pacificsouthwest-stanislaus@fs.fed.us. Be sure to list “Rim Reforestation” in the subject line. Names of commenters will become part of the public record.
For additional information regarding the project, contact Rim Reforestation team leader Maria Benech at (209)-532-3671, ext. 463. A draft EIS is expected in late 2015 with a final decision from the Forest Supervisor forthcoming in 2016.
