April Workshops at Petroglyphe Gallery's Quarry Hill Studio

Mokelumne Hill, CA...April Workshops with Master Ceramic Artist James Aarons & A 3-Day Watercolor Class With The Amazing Dale Laitinen. Quarry Hill Studio at Petroglyphe Gallery holds the resonance of a diversely creative world offered by seasoned artists sharing their process with blossoming students. Spring has sprung, and April showers bring two transforming workshops to the beautiful studio space...

EXPLORING UNDERGLAZE SURFACES IN CERAMICS with James Aarons

First up on Saturday, April 18, from 10 am – 4 pm . . . A unique and rare workshop with Mr. Aarons where students will be encouraged to break the rules. Underglaze (think paint for ceramic objects) has come a long way. The sky is the limit with reference to color. We will mix and match, brush and dab to our hearts’ content. Participants will use underglaze as a blending and covering medium where the color is the picture rather than creating pictures with color. If you would like to explore your inner abstract expressionist or dazzle us with your natural ability to paint beautiful pictures with glaze, come ready to dive into something ceramic. Students who regularly work in clay, please bring several earthenware pieces to work on. They should be bisque fired to cone 04 or 03 and dust-free. If you will not be bringing your own pieces, please notify the gallery when registering and prepared pieces will be available to you by the instructor.

James Aarons is a reformed modern dancer, ceramic artist and yoga teacher who combines the gestural necessities of each of these skills when considering what to do. Whether it’s making a drawing of a line or articulating a direction in space, the quality of the movement that creates it is what informs his work most.

PAINT THE CALIFORNIA FOOTHILLS with Dale Laitinen

A special 3-day workshop on Friday-Sunday, April 24-26 from 9 am – 4 pm . . . An indoor/outdoor workshop for all skill levels. This is a unique painting experience. Mokelumne Hill is in the heart of oak country. Paint the rolling hills and trees of spring. We take field trips to gather sketches and photos for painting in the studio. There will be teaching demos on design and development of your paintings of this beautiful landscape.

Dale Laitinen is best known for his watercolor paintings of the mountains and deserts of the Western United States. He is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. Laitinen has conducted workshops throughout the United States and in France. He lives and works in Mountain Ranch, California.

Register online at www.gallerypetrolgyphe.com, drop by the gallery or give us a call at 209-286-1387. The gallery is located at 8317 Main Street, Mokelumne Hill, CA 95245. Regular gallery hours are Thursday – Saturday 11:30 am – 5:30 pm and Sunday 11:30 – 4:00 pm
