Farm Bureau Leaders Meet
Sacramento, CA...Tuolumne County Farm Bureau board members and staff attended the Leaders Conference of the California Farm Bureau Federation in Sacramento this month. Farm Bureau Board President Shaun Crook attended along with Bob Brennan, Sherri Brennan, Jesse Cover, Sasha Farkas, and Elena Linehan. Water issues and the drought was a key topic of discussion in all of the Commodity Advisory Committee meetings and the general sessions...
“Water is the lifeblood of our work, which provides not only jobs but the food security our state and nation rely upon,” Paul Wenger, CFBF President said. “We didn’t make the drought, but we are on the front lines of dealing with its impact.”
The CFBF Leaders Conference gives an opportunity for farmers and ranchers break into smaller groups to discuss specific products like beef cattle, forestry and organic growing.
Jesse Cover joined in the advisory committee meeting for specialty crops.
“I learn so much hearing from other producers about their issues and solutions,” Cover said. “There are 57 different crops represented at that committee meeting coming from all across California.”
During the conference Tuolumne County Farm Bureau members visited with staff members of Assemblyman Frank Bigelow’s office and Senator Tom Berryhill’s office in addition to legislators from urban areas.
Sasha Farkas said, “It is valuable to visit elected officials at their office on their own turf. A call or letter to a representative is fine, but there is nothing like looking them in their eyes and meeting them face to face.”
Last month Farkas also participated in the annual CFBF Board Meeting in Washington D.C. in his role as District Director to the board. Participants visited elected officials in the U.S. Congress and Senate.
Opportunities are available for Farm Bureau members to join the Leadership Farm Bureau visit to Washington D.C. Members interested in participating can contact Elena Linehan at the Farm Bureau office for details.
Tuolumne County Farm Bureau board member Dave Pish also participated in a Commodity Advisory Committee on bee keeping last month.
Tuolumne County Farm Bureau was established in 1947, representing the interests of the agricultural community and the rural way of life. The Farm Bureau volunteers represent agribusiness on county, state and national issues of importance to Tuolumne County agriculture.
The TCFB board meets each month on the second Monday at the Farm Bureau office located at 77 N. Washington Street in downtown Sonora.
