William Shakespeare's The Taming Of The Shrew, Directed By Tara Kayton This Summer At Brice Station Vineyards
Murphys, CA...Producer and director, Tara Kayton is excited to collaborate with Brice Station Vineyards owners Stuart and Dolores Mast this coming summer with a nationally collaborative presentation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Kayton, a Calaveras native, New York City resident, and professional theatre artist plans to meld artists from different locations, backgrounds, and skills for this upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Using Shakespeare’s delightful language she hopes to bring the essence of collaborative art to the forefront and present this peculiar comedic love story on the picturesque performance space at Brice Station Vineyards....
The entire creative team is coming from New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Orlando, New Haven, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Sacramento, and Murphys. The group will gather for costume fittings and rehearsals in New York City before moving the piece to Brice Station Vineyards for staging this summer. The process has already begun with the show’s lighting designer and associate producer Laura J. Eckelman. Eckelman and Kayton have worked on multiple productions together including numerous shows, as classmates at the Yale School of Drama and local audiences will have seen their work at Murphys Creek Theatre in The Imaginary Invalid and last summer’s Twelfth Night at Brice Station. Along with Eckelman other Yale School of Drama collaborators include assistant director and dramaturg Ryan M. Davis, production stage manager Janet Cunningham, and costume designer Summer Lee Jack. Local favorites include cast members: Sean M. Lewis, Sheila Doyle, Robert Zellars, and set designer Misty Amber Day. Kayton believes gathering artists from across the country will cultivate an ethos of plurality, sensitivity, and creativity.
The amount of support Calaveras County has offered for this new collaboration is encouraging. Initial sponsorships from local individuals and businesses like Gold Country Roasters are being pledged and collected. Additionally, V Bistro’s generous offer to host the project’s upcoming fundraising party in April is heartening for Brice Station Vineyards, Tara and the entire production team.
The Taming of the Shrew will run July 31-‐August 22, 2015. Information on the April fundraising party, tickets, and other ways to support the project can be found at www.bricestation.com or by following Brice Station Vineyards on Facebook.
