SR 4 and SR 49 Gateway and Corridor Study - Public Meeting #2. Take The Updated Survey!

On April 8, 2015 the second public meeting for the SR 4 and SR 49 Gateway and Corridor Study was held at Bret Harte Union High School. At the meeting a presentation was given to inform the public of the outcomes from public meeting #1 and reviewed alternatives for land use and transportation improvements in the study area. This survey contains maps and images that were shown at our public meeting. Please take 15-20 minutes to share your feedback which will provide critical information for us to understand your vision for the future of Angels Camp. We appreciate you comments!

PROJECT PURPOSE: This study will be an integrated approach to transportation infrastructure and land use planning within the study area that will build on the existing assets and unique character of Angels Camp to support a vibrant future for the community. Outcomes and recommendations will incorporate design solutions that support the vision and values of the local community and enhance the economic vitality of the region while advancing the State’s goals for the highway system.

The project study area is located at the intersection of State Route 49 and SR 4 in the City of Angels Camp at the crossroads of Calaveras County. SR 4 and SR 49 are heavily traveled routes regionally and interregionally linking major destinations. SR 49, The Golden Chain Highway, links historic towns along the mother lode and SR4 connects the larger resident bases of Stockton and San Francisco to recreational destinations in the Sierras. The City of Angels Camp is known as the home of the Jumping Frog as well as being the base camp for mountain recreation. There is a growing demand in the City for economic development but transportation conflicts created from the intersection of two major regional highways inhibit future growth and limit the sense of place within the historic city.

In collaboration with the City of Angels, CCOG, Caltrans and the community the SR4 and SR49 Gateway and Corridor Study will address access and circulation, growth and development, and coordination of growth improvements to align with the community vision. The resulting plan will provide recommendations for an integrated approach to transportation infrastructure and land use opportunities for future development within the project area.
