Junior Miss Calaveras Crowned, Jr. Frog Jump Winners Announced
Angels Camp, CA...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump were held concurrently on Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire District station in Angels Camp. The Junior Miss Calaveras Queen and her court are as follows: QUEEN: Devyn Pryor, 12 of Avery Middle School, 1st Princess: Alexis Watt, 13 of Mark Twain Elementary, 2nd Princess: Mallory Wainwright, 14 of Mark Twain Elementary. Devin is a 7th grader at Avery Middle School, Alexis and Mallory attend Mark Twain. This year, many activities were added to the scoring criteria. The following girls were given awards for these new activities:Sponsorship: Alexis, Most ticket sales: Brooke Nord, Best Interview: Devyn, Highest Score on Written Test: Devyn, Best Speech: Devyn. The Junior Miss Calaveras competition was open to all county 7th and 8th grade girls. The queen and her court will appear in the upcoming Frog Jump parade on Thursday, May 14 and the Jr. Queen will be presented at the Calaveras county fair....

According to Christy Miro, pageant organizer, the 10 contestants raised more than $10,000 in raffle tickets and sponsorships which goes directly to the AMFD volunteer firefighters association. These funds are used largely to augment the Districts funding from local taxes which currently only totals about $60k/yr.
AMFD Chief John Rohrabaugh states “Operating a fire department on a small budget like ours takes a lot of creativity and hard work by our volunteers and supporters like the Jr. Miss Calaveras pageant, which is our single large fundraiser each year.”

As the winner of the Jr. Frog jump, Ryan gains admittance to the final round of jumping at the Calaveras County Fair International Frog Jump Championship on Sun. May 17.
