The Murphys Community Park Music Series Kicks Off On Memorial Day

Murphys, CA...Monday, May 25, 6:30 p.m. – Memorial Day Concert – Calaveras Community Band. The 2015 music season in Murphys Community Park will get a rousing patriotic kick-off when the Calaveras Community Band presents a special Memorial Day concert under the direction of conductor Mic Harper on Monday, May 25, at 6:30 p.m. There is no admission charge for the program that will honor the men and women who have served in the armed forces in the past and those currently stationed around the world. The band, that traces its history to California’s gold rush days, will perform a mixture of patriotic songs, Sousa marches, and show tunes, as well as unforgettable oldies. Families and other members of the community are invited to pack a picnic dinner and enjoy this start of the season concert. There will not be any food or beverages for sale in the park. Murphys Community Park is located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys.

Friday, June 12, 5:30 p.m. – First Friday in the Park – John Covert and Crystal Image
The Murphys Community Club’s popular series of First Fridays in the Park concerts will have its initial 2015 performance on June 12 starting at 5:30 p.m. The featured musicians will be John Covert and Crystal Image, a variety band playing classic rock, country, blues, oldies, originals and more. This event is actually scheduled for the second Friday in the month to avoid conflict with the Bret Harte High School graduation. During the series, the food hut will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. At each of these programs a specially prepared dinner, with an entree and appropriate side dishes, will be available at $10 per person. Local wines, along with soda and water, will be available to purchase. Alchemy will cater the meal. There is no admission charge. Friday, July 3, 5:30 p.m. – First Friday in the Park – Grover Anderson and Jill Warren
On July 3, the First Friday entertainers will be Grover Anderson and Jill Warren. The two singer/guitarists have roots in Murphys and are local favorites. Their music ranges from country to rock. The Murphys Community Club will be offering a dinner, specially prepared by Lila & Sage, with an entree and appropriate side dishes, for $10 per person. Local wine, along with soda and water, will be available to purchase. There is no admission charge. Murphys Community Park is located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys. Saturday, July 18, 11:30 a.m. – Murphys Homecoming
The Murphys Community Club’s traditional Murphys Homecoming will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18. The Calaveras Community Band will kick off the festivities with a concert starting at 11:30 a.m. Other activities will include the Old Timers Luncheon for local residents who are at least 70 years of age and have lived in the area for ten years or more. There will also be the greatly anticipated duck races that benefit the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Foundation. The Murphys Community Club will be selling a hot dog plate, ice cream bars, wine and other beverages. There is no admission charge. Friday, August 7, 5:30 p.m. – First Friday in the Park – Plan B
The Friday, August 7 edition of the First Friday in the Park series will find Plan B featuring Ken Rojas on guitar, Vince Rojas on bass, and Jim Bailey on drums taking center stage. A local favorite, the band tailors its music to fit the audience with an emphasis on rock hits from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. The Murphys Community Club will be offering a specially prepared dinner, with an entree and appropriate side dishes, for $10 per person. Local wine, along with soda and water, will be available to purchase. Sierra Hills & Natural Foods Market will be the caterer. Wednesday, August 19, 6:30 p.m. – Music in the Park – Snap Jackson and the Knock on Wood Players
The Calaveras Arts Council’s Music in the Park will visit the Murphys venue on Wednesday, August 19. The featured performers will be Snap Jackson & the Knock on Wood Players, an award winning acoustic quartet hailing from Stockton. The four gentlemen blend Americana, bluegrass, soul, and old time music to create a unique, fresh, and energetic sound. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. The Community Club will be selling a $10 dinner, prepared by Charlie’s Catering, local wines and other beverages. There is no admission charge. Friday, September 4, 5:30 p.m. – First Friday in the Park – Cantamos
Concluding the First Friday in the Park season on September 4 will be Cantamos. The group, a local favorite, plays a wide variety of music from jazz to show tunes, Latin songs to contemporary favorites. The Community Club will be selling a $10 dinner, prepared by the Murphys Historic Hotel, local wines and other beverages. There is no admission charge. Monday, September 7, 6:30 p.m. – Labor Day Concert – Calaveras Community Band
Rounding out the Murphys Community Park’s summer of music, the Calaveras Community Band will present a special Labor Day concert on Monday, September 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Conductor Mic Harper will lead the group, which traces its history to the days of the Gold Rush, in a program covering a wide range of concert band music. Concertgoers should bring a picnic supper. There will not be any food or beverages for sale in the park. There is no admission charge.
