Medical Cannabis Industry Telephone Townhall November 6
Sacramento, CA...California State Board of Equalization (BOE) Chairman Jerome E. Horton will host a Medical Cannabis Industry Telephone Townhall on Friday, November 6, at 1:00 p.m. Participants will learn about legislation, initiatives, and tax laws that affect the medical cannabis industry. During this event, callers will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from Assemblyman Mike Gipson and representatives from the BOE, Internal Revenue Service, Franchise Tax Board, Employment Development Department, Department of Consumer Affairs, and LA County Assessor’s Office...
"Medical cannabis retailers are encouraged to come into compliance to avoid enforcement actions," said Chairman Horton. “Ignorance of state laws is no excuse if you fail to educate yourself.”
Those wishing to participate may register online or by calling 1-888-847-9652. While you are encouraged to participate by phone, you are also welcome to attend in person at 7166 West Manchester Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
Registration is optional. If you choose to register, you will receive a call at the start of the telephone townhall with prompts for joining the event.

Re-elected in 2014, Chairman Jerome E. Horton is the Third District Member of the California State Board of Equalization (BOE), representing more than 9.5 million residents in Los Angeles County. He is also the BOE’s Property Tax Committee Chairman. He is the first to serve as a Board Member with more than 21 years of experience at the BOE. Horton previously served as a Member of the California State Assembly from 2000-2006.
The five-member BOE is a publicly elected tax board. The BOE collects $60 billion annually in taxes and fees, supporting state and local government services. It hears business tax appeals, acts as the appellate body for franchise and personal income tax appeals, and serves a significant role in the assessment and administration of property taxes.
