Center for Wound Care at Sonora Regional Medical Center Participates in Third Annual Wound Care Awareness Week
Sonora, CA...The Center for Wound Care at Sonora Regional Medical Center, a member of the Healogics network, is helping raise awareness of chronic wounds. This week is the third annual Wound Care Awareness Week, which is dedicated to educating physicians, patients and the general public about wound care. One of nearly 800 Healogics-managed Centers, the Center for Wound Care at Sonora Regional Medical Center offers advanced therapies to patients suffering from chronic wounds. Wound care centers around the nation are working to spread awareness in their communities about the chronic wound epidemic and advanced wound care solutions.
It is estimated that chronic wounds affect 6.7 million people in the U.S. and the incidence is rising, fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possibly amputation of the affected limb.
“We see patients who have lived with non-healing wounds because they didn’t know about advanced wound care options,” said Marj Adam, Director at the Center for Wound Care at Sonora Regional Medical Center. “By working with community physicians and educating them about which of their patients can benefit from advanced wound care, we are able to reach those patients with non-healing wounds and provide coordinated care to help them heal.”
