Deer Hunting Season Starts On The Stanislaus National Forest September 17th
Sonora, CA...California’s 2016 general deer season will open on Saturday, Sept. 17 and hunters are reminded about Fire Restrictions and outdoor safety on the forest. Wildfires continue to burn throughout California and much of the state remains at high risk for wildfires. Due to the Fire Restrictions on the High and Moderate Hazard Areas, a person with a valid California Campfire Permit may only use a portable stove or lantern using gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid within this area. Fire Hazard Area maps are available at any Forest Service office.
Visitor may not shoot any firearm, air rifle or gas gun (this includes BB guns) from a vehicle, 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site or other occupied areas.
Here is additional information that will aid the public in having a safe trip to the forest:
· All visitors should consider wearing bright colors to make their presence clear;
· All individuals in a hunting party must wear daylight, fluorescent orange at all times;
· Beware of broken limbs and damaged trees that may fall at any time.
· Look up while in the forest, especially when it’s windy and be aware of your surroundings
· Follow fire restrictions orders and make sure your campfire is completely out.
· Leave your itinerary with a friend or family member and check in with them upon your return.
Zone maps and season dates are posted at: https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Hunting/Deer#54774-zones--hunts. For information on regulations, license, tags and lotteries contact the Department of Fish and Wildlife at 209-234-3420. Deer kill can be validated at any Forest Service facility or by CA Fish and Game personnel.
Regulations concerning firearm use have been carefully developed to assist in promoting enjoyment and safety. Use a safe, common sense approach while hunting in the Forest to prevent injury to others and damage to natural resources.
