“I Now Ring Hollow, A Memorial To Our Land”- An Artistic Tribute To The Butte Fire

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Opening Reception Sunday, October 2, 2016, 2-5 PM Ceramic artist Mary Anderson shares her unique series of 12 Ceramic Bells, inspired by the magnificent ancient Japanese Dotaku bronze bells. According to folklore, the Dotaku bells were used for about 400 years, from 200 BC to 200 CE to warn of invasion. They were richly decorated with patterns representing nature and animals.

In reverent artistic reflection, Mary Anderson (who lost her home in the fire), a phenomenal ceramicist, created a unique series of ceramic bells. Petroglyphe Gallery, is featuring an exhibition called “I Now Ring Hollow, a Memorial to Our Land” spotlighting Mary Anderson’s ceramic bells. Infused ash from the land was used in the ceramic process as a respectful connection.

Reminders of the devastation and slow recovery of the Butte Fire is still ringing in our ears. For those in the area who lost everything but their lives, and for those who were affected in any way, this exhibition is to celebrate their ability to get through an unfathomable time, and their continued perseverance.
