October 14, 2016 – Story Slam - The Mother Lode Storytelling Guild is holding its third annual “Story Slam!”
Sponsored by Murphys Business Association and in partnership with Gold Country Roasters. The Story Slam is the

October 15, 2016 - The Mark Twain Wild West Fest will take place on Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm, on Main
Street in historic downtown Angels Camp. The inimitable, immersive, description-defying, high-camp and whimsical
Mark Twain Wild West Fest promises to be a living interpretation and celebration of the 19th Century Wild West
Gold Rush-era of the Sierra Nevada Mother Lode. Featured are three stages of non-stop music, comedy and
entertainment; roving street performers, magicians, jugglers, musicians, honky-tonk piano players and dance hall
girls; beer, wine and food; gun-slinging cowboys and outlaws and shoot-out reenactments, as well as villains and
damsels in distress; gold miners, their encampment and gold panning demonstrations; a flapjack breakfast; over
80 street vendors of all descriptions including arts and crafts, and a custom car show. The day is capped by a 4-
hour evening live music and comedy concert and dancing under the stars in Utica Park. Admission and parking are
FREE all day. In addition, historical impersonators and re-enactors from great literary figures, entertainers and
iconic personalities who made the American West great will be in attendance, including Mark Twain himself.
Entertainment will also feature a children’s storytelling workshop with Mark Twain, a Liar’s Contest for adults, and
other activities for adults and children of all ages. Attendees are encouraged to dress in period costume. For

October 15, 2016 – Sierra Storyteller Events at the First Congregational Church of Murphys - Storyteller,
archivist and author Cynthia Restivo guides her story audience in a community forum on how storytellers & artists
can be of service as survivors try to make meaning out of chaos. Through the power and art of storytelling, Restivo
helps us see ways to find recovery and rebirth after devastating events from 3-4:30pm. MaryGay Ducey, the
Queen Mother of the California storytelling movement and Tim Ereneta, the prince of fairy tales are featured from

October 15, 2016 – Guided Hikes in Big Trees State Park - North Grove Guided Tours – Guided walks of the
North Grove are held on Saturday at 1 pm. The walk is 1.5 to 2 hours. Meet in front of the Visitor Center. Bring

October 16, 2016 - Native Sons of the Golden West Monthly Breakfast - Chispa Parlor #139 of the Native
Sons of the Golden West will serve an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast at the Native Sons Hall from 7:30 to
11:30 am. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, coffee and hot chocolate will be

October 16, 2016 – Family Storytelling Concert at the First Congregational Church - The Central Mother
Lode’s best-loved storytellers and musicians bring you 90-minutes of song and stories with plenty of participation
(15 min intermission). Nationally Awarded storyteller, BZ Smith, with Parents’ Choice Gold Award-winning
musician, Peg Reza, Colleen Nunn, Claudia Tonge and more share the stage, bringing laughter and joy to your
