Michael O'Keefe 1939 - 2017

Mountain Ranch, CA...Michael O'Keefe 12-15-39 to 5-11-17 (77 years old) Born to Betty and Bill O'Keefe in Prairie Village, Kansas. This "hayseed" came to California by way of a scholarship to Stanford in Electrical Engineering. He transferred over to UC Berkeley for Police Science. Then became a Berkeley police officer (later Inspector) for many years. He married and had two children. Later married Linda. They moved to Calaveras Co. full time in 1975 where Michael worked for PG&E for many years, retiring early to work on the "ranch". He and Linda were God's stewards of a beautiful piece of land with many animals, wild and domestic. He loved nature so much. He was active in many things over the years. His passion was being the (cartographer) mapper for the Central Calaveras Fire District for 23 years. He also enjoyed his time as a ham operator for CARS (Calaveras Amateur Radio Society). Was active in the Foothill Community Church in Angels Camp for many years. Up until recently enjoyed sailing, kayaking, hiking, cross-country skiing, avid reader, traveling especially in Nevada.

He leaves his mate Linda (45 plus years), two blessed cats (Rusty and Autumn), daughters Kelly (James), grandson Conor, and daughter Heather (grandsons Alec, Nick, Bailey) plus many animal & bird friends (domestic and wild) including Conor the Peacock and Blind White Duck. He had many treasured friends (including his Police Department Brotherhood and Fire District Brotherhood). A simple memorial service will be held Saturday, June 17, 10 am, at the Foothill Community Church (3710 Whittle Road (off 49 toward fair grounds), Angels Camp.

Please remember Michael as that brilliant, vibrant, tall, good looking blue eyed guy with a wonderful personality. Pancreatic cancer is so nasty and quick. Michael thankfully is with the Lord. Donate locally if you want to the San Andreas Food Bank, PO Box 1656 San Andreas 95249, or Animal Services, 891 Mtn. Ranch Rd. San Andreas 95249.
