Charles Marchand, 82 From Groveland Lost His Life Yesterday on Old Priest Grade
Groveland, CA...On May 29, 2017 at approximately 4:30 pm, a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup, driven by 82 year old Charles Marchand, from Groveland, was traveling westbound, down Old Priest Grade. A 2016 Hyundai Sonota driven by 22 year old Jacob Lanigan from Australia was traveling eastbound up Old Priest Grade. For an unknown reason Marchand allowed his pickup to travel over the solid double yellow lines and collided head on with the Hyundai. Marchand was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Lanigan had very minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical Center. 24 year old Katie-Anne Slater from New Zealand, right front passenger in the Hyundai, had complaints of severe neck and back pain and was flown to Doctor's hospital for treatment. No alcohol or drugs are suspected to be a factor in this collision. The collision is still under investigation.
