Karen Lynn Collins, 51 From Groveland Passed Away in Tragic Collision On Mono Way

Sonora, CA...On June 14, 2017 at approximately 2:45 pm, a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by 72 year old William Charles Whitehouse, from Twain Harte, was traveling eastbound on Mono Way, west of El Ray Lane directly to the rear of a 2006 Honda Civic being driven by 51 year old Groveland resident, Karen Lynn Collins. A 2003 Chevrolet Silverado being driven by Rolland Anthony Demartini was traveling westbound on Mono Way east of El Ray Lane. Mrs. Collins slowed her vehicle in preparation to make a left turn northbound onto El Ray Lane, Mr. Whitehouse failed to slow his vehicle in a timely manner to the rear of Mrs. Collins’ vehicle. Subsequently, the front of Mr. Whitehouse’s vehicle collided with the rear of Mrs. Collins’ vehicle. This collision caused Mrs. Collins’ vehicle to be pushed into the westbound lane, directly into the path of Mr. Demartini’s vehicle. The front of Mrs. Collins vehicle collided with the left front of Mr. Demartini’s vehicle. Mrs. Collins was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Mr. Whitehouse sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and refused transportation to a hospital. Mr. Demartini sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to SRMC by Tuolumne County Ambulance. No alcohol or drugs are suspected to be a factor in this collision and all involved parties were using seat belts. The collision is still under investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Collins family and her friends.
