Public Hearing Set to Discuss Elimination of Bus Service to Stockton

San Andreas, CA...The possible elimination of the Delta Gold Line, the intercity bus to Stockton, will be the topic of a public hearing held by the Board of Supervisors on June 27. The prospect of losing this resource is driven by the high cost of operating the service. Ridership has been consistently low. The Delta Gold Line began in January 2016. The bus runs twice daily on weekdays between San Andreas and Stockton, providing Calaveras County residents with public transportation to the Amtrak and Greyhound stations, Delta College, shopping, and medical facilities in Stockton.

Just over half of the cost of operating the service is provided by a federal grant through the Rural Intercity Bus Program (FTA 5311f). Fare revenues have made up only about 5 percent of the operating cost. The balance of operating costs are covered by California Local Transportation Funds.

The Board of Supervisors will convene a public hearing at their regular meeting on June 27, 2017, to receive input from citizens about the service. If the Board approves a resolution to terminate the Delta Gold Line, the last day of service will be July 28, 2017.

Comments can be made in person at the public hearing to be held on June 27, 2017, to Public Works by email to transit@co.calaveras.ca.us, or to the Board of Supervisors on their website, bos.calaverasgov.us. Questions regarding the Delta Gold Line can be directed to Public Works at 209-754-6401.
