Pickup Fire Extinguished Before It Engulfed Fifth Wheel Trailer
Mi Wuk Village, CA...A three-quarter ton Chevrolet pickup pulling a thirty-nine foot fifth wheel trailer caught fire this morning after pulling the Twain Harte grade on State Highway 108. The fire occurred in front of Alicia’s Sugar Shack in Mi Wuk Village. It was noticed by Chief Larry Crabtree who was driving by and was the first to report the fire to the Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine Fire station just a few hundred yards up the Highway.
Fire fighters from the fire station arrived within minutes and by their quick action contained the fire to the engine compartment of the pickup, preventing damage to the trailer and all the motorists’ personal property. Their quick action prevented the fire from spreading to either the adjacent buildings or the nearby wildland.
The Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine fire fighters were assisted by fire fighters and a fire engine from Twain Harte Fire & Rescue Department.
The Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District serves the communities of Mi Wuk Village, Sugar Pine, and surrounding communities on State Highway 108. It is nestled in the tall trees at about 4,600 feet above sea level, on the edge of the Stanislaus National Forest. The District is served by a captain, two engineers, intern and volunteer firefighters, as well as a fire chief, assistant fire chief and a secretary. It is governed by a five member elected Board of Directors that oversees an annual budget of about $450,000.00
