Notice of Intent To Adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration

San Andreas, CA...In compliance with Section 15072 of the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines, notification is hereby given to responsible agencies, trustee agencies, interest groups and the general public that the Calaveras County Department of Public Works proposes to adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration for the Dogtown Road over Indian Creek Project.

The Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) and supporting attachments are available for review by the general public at the offices of the Calaveras County Public Works, 891 Mountain Road, San Andreas, CA 95249 and on the web at: http://publicworks.calaverasgov.us/PublicWorksHome.aspx

The proposed MND will undergo a 30-day public review period during which time comments will be received staring Wednesday June 28, 2017 and ending Friday July 28, 2017. Comments responding to the adequacy and appropriateness of the MND should be sent to the County at the address below or submitted at the public meeting on July 27th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the San Andreas Central Library, Chesebrough Room.

Calaveras County Public Works Department
891 Mountain Ranch Road
San Andreas, California 95249
Attn: Jen Ellis, Calaveras County – Project Manager

Commenters wishing to appeal the decision to prepare an MND must specifically state this intention in their letter.

Project Location: The project is located in Calaveras County, approximately 4.4 miles north of the communities of Altaville and Angels Camp, and 4 miles east of State Route 49 along Dogtown Road.

Project Description: The Calaveras County Public Works Department’s proposes to replace the existing Dogtown Road Bridge over Indian Creek with a new structure. The new structure will be approximately 60 feet long and 24 feet wide. The structure will accommodate two 10-foot travel lanes with 2-foot shoulders and barrier rails. The new bridge will be a single-span, precast, prestressed concrete slab supported on seat abutments founded on spread footings. The proposed alignment of the bridge would shift Dogtown Road approximately 15 feet to the west at the creek crossing.

In addition, the sections of Dogtown Road adjacent to the bridge will be improved to 10-foot lanes with 2-foot shoulders. Approximately 400 feet of roadway north and south of the bridge will be improved. Because of the roadway widening and construction staging, a retaining wall, approximately 200 feet in length, will be constructed along the west edge of the south approach.

Phased construction will be implemented to maintain traffic operations during construction. Project construction is anticipated to be completed by 2022 over a six to eight month period (during one calendar year).
