2008 Angels Camp Business Association Board Installation and Volunteer Appreciation Dinner!~By Hanna Heath

Angels Camp, CA....The first Annual Board installation and volunteer appreciation dinner for the Angels Camp Business Association was held at CAMPS Restaurant in Angels Camp on January 23, 2008. This dinner’s main focus was to acknowledge the new 2008 board members, the 225 volunteers that helped with various events throughout the year, and to review all the accomplishments that the association made throughout the past(click on photo for slideshow).....

year. Tonight’s inauguration of the 2008 Board members included the following...

President: Anne Forrest
Vice President: Sherri Smith
Secretary: Theresa Douglas
Treasurer: Pat Gulyas
Directors: Janet Culidge, Jessie German, Donovan Hamanaka, Andrea Silva, and Bob Trinchero.

President Anne Forrest plans on addressing a new program called the Business Education Program. This program will provide educational programs and classes for small business owners in Angels Camp. Programs that would help entrepreneurs grow their small business and are able to take classes that would be affordable. During their next board meeting on February 4th 2008 the board will discuss and vote to add or dismiss this program as a part of the Angels Camp Business Association.

Last night many volunteers attended and were honored with a certificate of appreciation from the ACBA. Volunteers also received a coffee mug to remind them of all their hard work and dedication throughout the year. I spoke with volunteer's Jane Bottomley, Mary Jane Genoccio, and Shawna Hawkins and asked them what is the greatest accomplishment that you made this year as a volunteer? They shared " It's wonderful to help improve and support our community."

As the night continued president Anne Forrest took the stand once more to address outstanding accpolishments that the ACBA made during 2007. Between March and May the ACBA had their annual scholarship Drive and raised almost $3,000 for five scholarships for Bret Harte graduating seniors to pursue business studies. In the months of June through October the ACBA hosted Fresh Fridays Farmers Market which had over 40 venders each week and 8 wonderful sponsors. The list goes on with events such as Spring Spruce Up, Taste of Calaveras, Holiday Parade and the Holiday Open House.

After sharing their success three local business owners including Kym Flaigg with Prudential California Realty, Paul Coca, Sr. with Firefall Jewelers, and Donna Stevenson with Pacific West Financial gave their advice about growing your business in good times and in bad. All three owners talked about their personal experiences and gave great ideas and advice to the new businesses and existing businesses in Angels Camp.

All of us here at The Pine Tree wish the Angels Camp Business Association the best of luck in 2008.
