USFS Says Douglas Fire Less That One Acre

Sonora, CA...Current Fire Situation: The fire is currently less than 1 acre size with low fire behavior and smoke outputs in fir trees with small amounts of Jeffery and lodgepole pine and shrubs. Moisture occurred over the fire on Wednesday (8/2), and the reconnaissance flight and ground resources reported very limited fire and smoke activity the past two days. The terrain is very steep and rugged, making firefighting access difficult and a safety concern. Firefighters are in strategic and safe locations near the fire to monitor fire behavior and to stop fire spread as needed.

The fire’s objectives includes firefighter and public safety; protection, maintenance and enhancement of natural and cultural resources; and to the extent possible, facilitate the return of fire as an ecosystem process to improve landscape resiliency.

Fire Information: The fire’s perimeter growth is being kept within a pre-planned, designated area primarily within the Dome Inventoried Roadless Area (a “near natural” management emphasis area, based on Stanislaus National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan). No evacuations, road or trail closures are in effect, although we advise the public to avoid this area. Steep and rugged terrain would make escape difficult.

Weather conditions: Very dry fuel conditions will persist throughout the area and temperatures in excess of 100 degrees are expected to continue for the next several days.
