Calaveras Supervisors Honor Superintendent of Schools Kathy Northington's 40 Year of Service as an Educator

San Andreas, CA...Retiring Calaveras Superintendent of Education Kathy Northington was honored this morning at the Board of Supervisors Meeting. Kathy attended school at Wallace and Valley Springs elementary schools, graduated from Calaveras High School in 1969 and attended California State University, Sacramento, where she received her bachelor’s degree in child development and her teaching credentials. Kathy returned to Calaveras County as a teacher at Rail Road Flat, Valley Springs and Copperopolis elementary schools from 1977-1987. While teaching she continued her education and received her master’s degree in school administration from the University of San Francisco in 1985.

In 1990 Kathy served as Principal at Mokelumne Hill Elementary for one year and then moved to Valley Springs Elementary where she served as Principal for nine years. In 2000 she was named Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction at the Calaveras County Office of Education and later added oversight of the county’s special education programs to her responsibilities. In 2008 she was hired as Superintendent of Mark Twain Union Elementary School District. Kathy was elected as the County Superintendent of Schools for Calaveras County in June 2010, taking office in January 2011. Kathy has had the unique experience of being a student, parent, teacher, and administrator all in Calaveras County.

Kathy will retire on August 31, 2017 having given 40 years of service as an educator in Calaveras County.

THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors would like to extend their congratulations to Kathy Northington, extend their best wishes for her future endeavors and express their appreciation for her dedication to the County and its residents.
