Slopestyle...Bear Valley Style!~By Hanna Heath
Bear Valley, CA…. Yesterday, Bear Valley Mountain Resort kicked off their first BV Sessions Slope Style Series event. The competition took place on the infamous beginner run Super Cub which is located on the far west side of the mountain near Kuala Chair. The park course included three table tops, two rails, one box, and ending the course was the park wall reaching ten feet in vertical height. Before the competition began fans and local spectators surrounded the course to support the brave participants....
Twenty Tree Participants were ready to conquer the course at 12:00 in the afternoon. Many mastered their crazy tricks, but do the bad weather conditions each participate got two runs instead of the scheduled three. After seeing back flips, rodeos, 360’s, and many crashes participants, judges, and family members gathered in the mountains sun room to announce the first, second, and third place winners in each division.
Winners for the Open division include:
Skiing-
1st Place: Mike Schimke received $400.00
2nd Place: Kalin Kaiser received $250.00
3rd Place: Keith Enderlein received $100.00
Snowboarding-
1st Place: “Jimbo” Fleming received $400.00
2nd Place: Chris Johnson received $250.00
3rd Place: Jackson Heath received $100.00
Women’s Snowboarding-
1st Place: Charlotte Stevens received $400.00
2nd Place: Lauren Phillips received $250.00
3rd Place: no winner was announced
Winners for the Amateur division include:
16+ Skiing-
1st Place: Craig Cook
2nd Place: Mike Marians
3rd Place: no winner was announced
16+ Snowboarding-
1st Place: Brian Costello
2nd Place: Jacob Giusto
3rd Place: Matt Pekaraik
15- Skiing-
1st Place: Jesse Slater
2nd and 3rd Place: no winners were announced
15- Snowboarding-
1st Place: Mykael Amos
2nd Place: Austin Jones
3rd Place: James Lawrence
15- Women’s Snowboarding-
1st Place: Witney Bourassa
2nd and 3rd Place: no winners were announced
After all the winners were announced special events manager Merri Donovan did the participant raffle. Prizes for the raffle included: helmets, backpacks, gloves and much more. This event was a great success and after talking with participants and judges they can’t wait till the next event witch is held on March 8th, 2008.
