Bret Harte Union High School District Job Announcement
Position(s): 1. Special Education Paraprofessional
Work Year: 10 Month employee (Full Year = 183 days)
Start Date: Remainder of the 2017-2018 school year
Hours per day: 6.5 hours per day
Salary: Range 7: $15.62-$17.18 p/hour, depending on experience
DESCRIPTION: Under the direct supervision of the Special Education Teacher/Case-Manager, classroom teacher(s), and School Site Administrators/Principal, the Inclusion Paraprofessional will perform necessary duties to assist in the planning and implementation of a program for special needs children in both special education and inclusive settings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma. Passing score on the proficiency test or possess an Associate of Arts (AA) Degree or higher or have completed 48 college units. Additional training in child development, special education, disabling conditions, or Autism Spectrum Disorder is desirable.
Experience: Previous experience working with middle school/high school aged students. Experience working with students with ASD preferred. Inclusion experience preferred.
Knowledge of:
- Autism Spectrum Disorders & other Qualifying Disabilities
- Positive Behavior Support Strategies
- CPR & First Aid
Ability to:
- Operate necessary program equipment including technology
- Maintain records.
- Work independently.
- Work effectively with disabled students.
- Elicit optimum student performance.
- Maintain positive attitude toward and control of students.
- Respect the confidentiality of school-related incidents and information.
- Maintain professional boundaries.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in course of work.
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
