Fuelwood Collection Ends on Stanislaus National Forest Dec. 15

Sonora, CA...Anyone who was waiting for the right day to collect fuelwood on the Stanislaus National Forest has until Dec. 15 to resupply their fuelwood. After that, collecting fuelwood will not be permitted until April 16, 2018. This year dead and down wood is available at no cost, but collectors need a fuelwood permit for each cord of wood collected.

“This year due to a lot of dead and down wood, we provided no-cost fuelwood permits during the entire collection period,” said Brian McCrory, acting timber resources manager. “Next year we will charge for the fuelwood permits, but a price has not yet been determined. That will happen after we review the past fuelwood season and see how much is available for collection.” Forest officials will announce the permit cost after their meeting in January 2018.

Your local ranger district office can provide permits and other information, including road conditions. Check with them before traveling on the forest.
