Local Firefighters Participate in Large Extrication Drill~By Hanna Heath

Angels Camp, CA… Last Saturday over sixty firefighters from various departments in Calaveras County participated in a large scale extrication drill. Departments included: Angels City Fire, Altaville-Melones Fire, Copper Fire, Central Fire, Murphys Fire, Ebbetts Pass Fire, and Foothill Fire. The all day training was held at the Angels City Fire station 2. During this training firefighters and emergency personnel practiced "MCI" Multi Casualty Incident training....

The training incident included a school bus loaded with twenty students who were involved in a terrible accident causing the school bus to land on its side. The training incident included scenarios as to what would be the proper emergency evacuation of children with different types of injuries.

The twenty students, who acted as victims for the training, were from various schools in Calaveras County. Firefighters were able to picture this as a real event because of the use costume makeup and real medical equipment used on the children. One of the most important pieces of extrication equipment that the departments used was the "Jaws of Life." This tool allowed the firefighters to cut through metal to free the victims who were trapped inside the bus.

All of us here at ThePineTree.net would like to thank all the fire departments in Calaveras County for being prepared and well trained. We appreciate all that you do for the community and we want you all to know that you are doing a wonderful job.
