Low Snowpack
Posted on: 2018-01-08 10:39:46   By: Anonymous

2018 looks like a Winter with a low snow pack. The long range predictions are for warmer than normal temps, which means more rain and a low snow pack. We are in good shape with storage in our aquifers , and lakes.
The usual pattern is one or two above normal wet winters, then 5+ years of low to near normal precip. We are now in a La Nina pattern (NOAA)which is supposed to produce cooler and drier systems for the Pacific coast and inland. There is variance in the typical La Nina , we seem to be in a warmer La Nina pattern.

At 1650Ft , my water tables are exhibiting a higher level starting January 2018 than I have seen in my 30 years in Calaveras county. I have 9 artesian springs , 3 wells.
In one ag well , I had to install a drain, as the well was spilling 1500 gals of water /day, and creating a swamp where the cattle travel, I never had seen this before, except in late March as water tables rose from winter precip. The springs also are flowing heavily, and the seasonal drainage along a county road is running quite well , unusual for only receiving about 6 inches so far this winter season.
