New Sheriff Canine Team from Friends of the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office Donations

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has a new canine team in training. Corporal Jim Moser and his new partner Deputy Canine Nox are teaming up and will soon be patrolling the streets of Calaveras County. Sheriff Rick DiBasilio recently congratulated Corporal Moser and welcomed Deputy Canine Nox into the Sheriff’s Department family as another part of DiBasilio’s commitment to serve the citizens of Calaveras County through his “Community First” approach. The leader of the team, Corporal Jim Moser, is an 11 year veteran with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. He started with the Department in September of 2006 and has been dedicated to serving our community as a Field Training Officer, Impact Weapons Instructor and SWAT team member. Corporal Moser is a skilled and knowledgeable peace officer, who strives to bring the best of law enforcement into the community. He believes teaming up with Nox brings another specialized tool into the fight against crime in rural communities.

Second in command on this team is Deputy Canine Nox, who is a Malinois German Shepherd mix, born in the Netherlands and brought into the United States from VLK Europe, a police canine training and breeding company. VLK Europe has a reputation in carrying the highest level apprehension and detections canines coupled with high level social abilities for communities like Calaveras County. Nox will not only be tough on crime, he will also be kind hearted and gentle with those he protects.

Corporal Moser and Nox are scheduled for 320 hours of exceptional canine training based out of Modesto, CA. Corporal Moser will train Nox in narcotic detection, tracking and apprehension. The training will occur regionally, exposing them to different areas and scenarios in preparation for real world situations and deployments. In addition, they will be training with other new handler teams from neighboring agencies and building a network of resources which may be brought here for citizens of Calaveras.

The addition of this new Canine team has been bought and paid for through donations made to Friends Of the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office (FOCSO), a non-profit organization. The FOCSO organization was established in 2012 and provides equipment and training which would otherwise not be possible for the Sheriff’s Department. Arnold Pet Clinic is providing basic healthcare at no cost and Spence Feed is donating food and some supplies as needed. Donations for the canine program may be made through FOCSO.
