CHP & Air National Guard Helicopters Part of Search For Missing Skier Thomas Mullarkey
Markleeville, CA...From the Alpine County Sheriff's Dept...As many of you know, we have an active search going on in Bear Valley. I will quote the press release below. Our dedicated partners, the California Highway Patrol air Division and the Air National Guard came yesterday to assist. Unfortunately, the storm blew in before they could leave the area, so there was a helicopter slumber party last night!
Press release regarding Overdue skier 3-15-18 1630 hours. Bear Valley Mountain Resort, Alpine County, California.
On March 14th at 11:30 pm Mrs. Jane Drummond-Mullarkey reported to the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office that her husband Thomas Mullarkey, had not returned to their cabin in Arnold, California, after a day of skiing at the Bear Valley Mountain Resort located in Alpine County, California.
Alpine County Sheriff’s Office personnel located Mr. Mullarkey’s car at the Resort shortly after 11:30 pm. Due to extreme avalanche danger a search of the surrounding terrain could not be initiated during the hours of darkness. At approximately 7 am on March 15th members of Calaveras County Search and Rescue, Alpine County Search and Rescue, resort ski patrol, and Sheriff’s Office personnel resumed the search. An Air National Guard and California Highway Patrol Helicopter were deployed as well, but were grounded almost immediately upon arriving at Bear Valley due to low visibility, wind, and snow. Search conditions continue to be very hazardous due to extreme avalanche conditions.
Mr. Mullarkey is a sixty-five-year-old white male adult, 5’ 8” tall, approximately 150 pounds with grey hair and blue eyes. Mr. Mullarkey is known to be an advanced skier and in good health. He is believed to be wearing the same ski suit as depicted in the attached photos.
