Rick DiBasilio For Sheriff

Law Enforcement Background
Sheriff Rick DiBasilio has worked at the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) fo 15 years. Rick was hired as a recruit by the CCSO in 2002 and proceeded to work up in rank holding various positions. Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Sheriff’s Explorer Advisor, Detective, and Sergeant. On October 29th, 2015 Calaveras County Sheriff Gary Kuntz, Rick’s boss and friend, died unexpectedly. In May of 2016 Rick was appointed to Sheriff of Calaveras County by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors to fill the remainder of Sheriff Kuntz’s second term in office.

The transition to Sheriff was uncomplicated as Rick and the administration work towards the same goal which is to Keep Calaveras Safe. Rick leads the department with strong, progressive leadership with solid qualifications in law enforcement, budget oversight, personnel affairs, policy/procedure development, staff training, public safety, emergency response, investigation, and asset protection. He maintains the jail, court, administration, patrol, investigations and substations. Rick leads by example, developing a professional team atmosphere to accomplish all law enforcement objectives.

Since becoming Sheriff of Calaveras County, Rick has proven his developed leadership and analytical skills as evidenced by an innate ability to continuously improve law enforcement operations. Ricks reputation for a strong work ethic has been awarded with commendations for uncompromising devotion to the Calaveras County community.

As Sheriff of Calaveras County, Rick works to uphold public safety in the community and cohesiveness in the department. He represents this by maintaining the trust of the people.

Rick has worked to build relationships with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, California Highway Patrol, Angels Camp Police Department, local fire departments, paramedics, and public health providers. Rick works with Calaveras County departments and all county government effectively.

As the current Sheriff, these relationships have only strengthened over time which is dynamic for Calaveras County. Rick also works with numerous entities such as California Office Emergency Services, California Fish & Wildlife, Cal-Fire, HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Agency), and the California Air Resources Board. Rick also worked with Suket Construction and Sutton Enterprises, who were associated with the clean-up of the Butte Fire in facilitating and obtaining information to allow smooth operations.
